There’s a long list of wildlife to encounter in the malaria-free Madikwe Reserve, including all the iconic members of the Big Five. Moms and Dads, take note: if you’re traveling with children under the age of six, a specialized family safari will be arranged. Main Destination: Madikwe Game Reserve Accommodation: Madikwe River Lodge Luxury lodge located inside Madikwe GR Meals & Drinks: All meals included Non-alcoholic drinks
We also offer dedicated bush walks at Madikwe River Lodge, led by our highly skilled and armed tracker guides. While our larger game animals often steal the show, there are plenty of smaller creatures worth learning about. From tiny dung beetles to beautiful bat-eared foxes, venturing out on foot offers a chance to discover all the little beasts of the bush that often go unnoticed. If you’re a keen birder (and even if you’re not), you’re guaranteed to delight in the myriad of local choristers flittering through the Madikwe region. The Groot Marico River lures in a bounty of indigenous birdlife, so keep your eyes and ears peeled. High on the list are African fish eagles, Pel’s fishing owls, and Brown-hooded Kingfishers. Blink, and you’ll miss them!
Guests will go for an early morning game drive, then breakfast will be served at the lodge. Checkout is at 11:00 am. A transfer will take the guests to Johannesburg International Airport.

Frequent Questions

Travelling to South Africa with children can be confusing. Some few years ago, the South African government required a couple of documents for children to travel with their parents or guardians

  • A valid passport for the parents/guardians and children
  • A full birth certificate (original or photocopy of original) if travelling with both parents
  • If travelling with one parent there is additional documentation , parent consent affidavit not longer than four months and a letter from parents signed by the authorities in case of a guardian

Due to the difficulty in getting some of these documents and the inconvenience it created, the South African government does not require some of these documents anymore. A passport is the only requirement left. However it is advisable to carry your children’s birth certificates with you .

It is always advisable to have travel insurance whenever travelling outside Europe and the United States. This will keep you at ease in case something happens. A travel insurance that covers medical situations during your period in South Africa will make your safari smooth sailing. However this is not compulsory, it’s just advisable.

There are no compulsory vaccines to travel to South Africa if you are coming from Europe or the United States. However you may want to get vaccines against COVID and the other day to day vaccines we take throughout our lives.

You need to let us know when you make your booking so that we can adapt our services to your conditions.
